Last night, the comedy act Standup for Peace came to Vassar. Standup for Peace is billed as the "two-comedian solution to Middle East Peace," and are one Jewish and one Palestinian-American comedian touring together promoting a simple solution for peace in the Middle East: interaction.

Yes, of course that is oversimplifying the horrible and ongoing problems in the Middle East; but there is a powerful message there: if talking fails, war is not the solution, more talking is. The Bush administration is mad that Jimmy Carter is talking to Hamas. But at least they are TALKING. One of them said last night, "If there's a problem, you shouldn't talk to your friends, talk to your enemies."

Just think about it. If we can laugh together, why can't we live together?
